Morgan can be very dramatic.
She ran inside screaming, “Mama! I saw a black widow!”
Knowing that Morgan is actually pretty good with details, I asked for more info.
“Where is it, Morgan?”
(This is where I thought it was funny–I thought I’d get an answer such as on the swingset, under the slide, etc.)
“Well, Jared and I were cleaning up and while we were putting trash away, you know behind the place where Daddy says we shouldn’t be? Well, we were behind there and then Jared asked, ‘Morgan, what’s that’ and he put his arm down to pick it up. And I said, Jared, no! That’s a black widow! It’ll hurt you! We better go tell Mama! Now it’s crawling up the house, so we ran inside. And that’s where it is, Mama! It’s big and black and has a red trophy on its tummy.”
My first thought was…..what would the public schools think of homeschooled kids based on Morgan? Even though Morgan is good with details–I still wasn’t sure if she’d actually seen a black widow.
So I walked outside and sure enough–crawling straight towards my back door was the biggest black widow spider I have ever seen. I tried to kill it, but couldn’t do it, so woke up Andrew (who has been at work since 1:00am and only just went to sleep) and he killed it.
I think I might call those bug people again—it’s $500 a year, but they have guarantees concerning this stuff—no creepy crawlies anywhere near our house or yard.
