It’s here!! I’m excited to share perspectives from four lovely ladies who cherish their calling in helping women give birth to their babies, and I am honored to feature them here. This is day one of a five day series, so click on the different days to see the other posts in this series.
I will post your questions/answers from one Midwife each day, beginning Tuesday, as well as daily giveaways (books, a gift certificate, bath goodies, etc.) leading up to ONE Grand Prize on Friday! *Giveaways are now closed.
And now, meet our panel of Midwives!
Midwife #1: Carie Means
Carie Means and her family serve as missionaries to Oaxaca, Mexico. She has been a Certified Professional Midwife for 3 years. Her passion for birth began when she was 18 when she attended the very natural and very exhilarating birth of her nephew. She is grateful to her sister for sharing this very intimate experience with her, showing her birth is not scary, but beautiful. Shortly after the birth of Carie’s first child, 13 years ago, she began studying to become a child birth educator, then a doula, and finally a midwife. She studied with Janessa Craig, a licensed midwife, in a typical homebirth practice, at a high volume birth center, and most recently was able to spend some time with an incredible and very experienced Mexican midwife, Angelina Martinez Miranda.
In June she will begin a position as a staff midwife at a non-profit birth center in Oaxaca. Their mission is to train national midwifes, provide exceptional and much needed maternity care, and share the gospel. Carie wishes that all she does, both with midwifery and in ministering to her family, to be glorifying to God.
Midwife #2: Lucy Ferguson
Midwife (to-be) #3: Anna Tarbet
My name is Anna Marie Tarbet. My husband and I have two children, Keenan and Indigo. We are excited for our newest addition, due in October. After having a cesarean with my son, because he was a footling breech, I became interested in birth. I got involved with homebirth in 2006 and fell in love with it. Assisting women as they give birth and become mothers fills my heart with joy. I started apprenticing several years ago and recently finished. Indigo’s birth was my first personal experience with homebirth. It was so wonderful, and I am so proud to say it was a very successful VBAC. I’m preparing to take my exam this year and begin my dream of being a midwife.
