Because I was feeling incredibly tired earlier, I prepared dinner for the children (complete with our first batch of homemade ketchup) and then laid down for a few minutes this evening. After watching my small son fall asleep, I thought I’d just close my eyes for a few more minutes and join the others. But I fell asleep.
In a daze, I heard my oldest son say, “Oh, Mama’s asleep.”
My daughter replied, “Shhh, don’t wake her up.”
After a few minutes, I heard a snap, snap, snap and wondered what on earth my three older children had gotten into.
Still half asleep, I walked into the living room, where I discovered The Trio sitting on the couch (they like to sit right up next to each other–it’s too cute) watching a movie and eating these gigantic carrots that looked about the size of my smallest child.
Fortunately my children love carrots, cucumbers, and salads in general. I can make them a feast and the only certainty I have is that the salad will be gobbled up. I usually buy the baby carrots or carrot chips, but these were the organic large juicing carrots. And there were my children, trying very hard to eat these huge carrots.
Their response to my presence?
“Hi, Mama. We got some carrots ‘cause we’re still hungry. Did we wake you up?”
So…what do my children do when faced with the opportunity to get into somereal trouble?
They put on a movie and raid the fridge for giant carrots.
Speaking of carrots, did you know…
Carrots are a great snack for children and families in general, because they’re easily portable and are highly nutritious. One average carrot provides Vitamins A, B, calcium, phosphorous, carotenoids, and lycopene. Supporting the kidneys and liver, consuming carrots help flush out excess fluid, and the cleansing power is boosted even more with natural fiber, helping to prevent constipation.
