Their words didn’t fall on deaf ears, and I went on to read articles which brought up questions and concerns.
But it wasn’t until my own daughter started getting older that I got serious about it, refusing to let her use something that included ingredients found on cautionary lists:
- aluminum
- parabens
- synthetic fragrances
- triclosan
While, according to Cancer.gov, there are questions regarding a definitive link between these ingredients and breast cancer, there’s enough information to raise concerns for this mama. Also those with sensitive skin can be affected in other ways and not everyone is keen on putting so many chemicals and unknowns onto their bodies.
After trying a few natural deodorants from our local health stores and not finding one that really worked, I became discouraged.
Not much later, I received an e-mail from Truly’s Natural Products, asking if I was interested in sampling and reviewing their product.
Of course I jumped at the opportunity.
I’ve never been so excited in my life to receive a hygiene product in the mail!
First off, the jar graphics are cool! But as a lover of coconut, I was immediately drawn in as the deep, sultry, yet subtle, fragrance of organic coconut filled my senses.
And most importantly, it worked! It really worked! Even after a high intensity workout, it still worked!
As for her ingredient list? Forget the unknowns, and check out these simple and familiar items:
- Organic coconut oil
- Powdered sugar (Sugar, cornstarch)
- Baking soda
- Beeswax
I found the list explaining the significance of each ingredient especially interesting.
Overall, Truly’s Natural Deodorant is excellent for the whole family, including children, pre-teens, teens and those with sensitive skin.

Awesome. I find with the natural deodorants, they may work for an hour , but by mid-day, they have nothing on this Texas heat. I really would love the chance to win some to try for myself and family.

Looks great. I have been looking for something for my pre-teen dd who is has very sensitive skin. No chemicals and artificial scents (chemicals) would be great.
The Mama Behind the Story says
I hear ya, Erika!!! My children’s skin is incredibly sensitive, which is why we switched to cloth diapers. So far my oldest hasn’t had any issues. 🙂

I like their ingredients…..same as in a cake 🙂
And I am looking for one for myself to try. I’ve tried one that’s so/so (but natural).
The Mama Behind the Story says
I know (about the cake ingredients). Isn’t that cool? It has a lovely fragrance. 🙂

I have made my own deodorant using coconut oil, cornstarch and baking soda, but no beeswax. I really like it although I tend to get rashy. I would love to try this one with beeswax to see if that helps at all.

I had no idea the powdered sugar would work to destroy and prevent bacteria! I have never seen it in a natural deodorant recipe before and I just think that’s so interesting.

I really like Truly’s site and the cute cartoons. I think it is neat that it is a small family operation and the business is named after their youngest daughter. I had tried a creamed deodorant that didn’t work and so I found it interesting to read over their ingredient list and think it must be worth trying with all the testimonies and the money back guarantee. Glad they sent it for you to review so we could find out about them.

I love the ingredients and am impressed that it is supposed to work all day. Most natural deodorants need to be reapplied.
