I breastfed my fourth child throughout my fifth pregnancy and then went on to tandem nurse, which I believe helped my fourth child transition more easily from being the baby to becoming the big brother.
I’ve often wondered how pregnancy and breastfeeding affect one another and while we often hear personal stories of breastfeeding during pregnancy, I sought out some factual info from a couple of La Leche League leaders.

I know this post is “old” but I was just wondering how far apart your children are? I only ask because If you got pregnant right away and were the only nutrition source for the baby that was nursing would that have a different impact than if you were supplementing with breast milk in conjunction with a diet of “food” like you would see with a toddler instead of an infant? I am not currently pregnant, i miscarried in the fall and I am not currently nursing but I did nurse with my last child and God willing I will have more little ones and I loved the bonding experience with my son {second child}. Also, my daughter who is oldest went malnutrition within her first week of life despite a healthy milk supply, she failed to go poop though her diapers were wet and she didn’t gain but continued to lose so she was formula fed. She is old now and has no known food allergies and has a very healthy appetite, especially for healthy things. Do you know if malnutrition followed by a healthy breastfeeding experience is normal or what could have caused it and would this affect tandem nursing if God blesses me with a bunch more? Thanks so much for sharing your experiences I have enjoyed reading about your pregnancy and even the tummy thing. I have always wondered why since my sons birth that if i PUSH my belly out like i am pregnant why the middle “seam” bulges. I have a lot of back, uterine and pelvic pain and will most definitely be looking into the rehab program you mention!

With my children who are ecologically breastfed (by following the seven standards), my full fertility seems to return around 23 months.
With my children who were breastfed but with whom we didn’t follow the seven standards, my fertility came back very quickly.
I’ll return later to address the rest of the post (I have many e-mails to catch up on π ). For us, we’ve seen tremendous health benefits in both myself and the children when we followed the seven standards. π
Blessings. π
