Are you looking for some ways to show your kids you care about them? You know you can show them on their birthdays, and on other holidays, but did you know that sometimes it’s the small things that really mean the most? Showing your kids you care in the little ways each day really goes a long way toward making them feel like they are loved and cared for.
Here are 10 small ways to show your kids you care:
1. Remember your sense of humor
You just can’t take life with kids too seriously. It’s important to remember your sense of humor, especially when it seems like things aren’t going your way.
2. Stop yelling
Yelling does far more harm than good. It never resolves a situation and it will hurt the relationship between you and your children. I know it can be hard, especially when things are stressful, but a soft answer goes a long way.
3. Leave little notes
Put little love notes in their lunch, in their room, on the bathroom mirror, or someplace else that they will see. This is a great way to remind your kids you care.
4. Create a secret code
Have some fun with this one! Do you have a code word or a gesture between just the two of you? This is a great way to make your child feel special and also show them you care.
5. Listen when they talk
It’s not enough just to listen. You have to listen attentively. Give them your undivided attention to show that you care.
6. Play with them
Even just a few minutes of play a day can go a long way toward showing your children they matter to you. Make some time every day for play.
7. Smile
It doesn’t get much simpler than a smile but this can go so far to show your kids you care.
8. Hug
A hug, a pat on the back, or even a high five is a small gesture that shows you care.
9. Forgive quickly
Children will make mistakes. It happens and it’s a natural part of growing up. You can’t hold those mistakes against them and when you forgive quickly, especially for the little things, you’re showing them you care.
10. Eat meals together
This is a great way to share about your day, learn more about your children, and just generally enjoy time together. Make the time to enjoy meals together.
With these ideas, you can show your kids you care each and every day. Remember, it doesn’t always require something big and elaborate. The small gestures are just as good at showing them how much they mean to you.
As moms, we love our children, and we want only what’s best for them. What a blessing to be able to put these small steps into action.

Eating meals together is number 1 on my list. Some family advisors say plan to eat one meal together once a WEEK. What? Even though Hubby worked rotating shifts, which changed weekly, we sat down at the table – no t.v., no devices, no phone. We talked. Sometimes it was chaotic, but it happened. I remember one of my daughter’s joined us occasionally and said she wished her family would eat together.
