I hear it ALL the time–homeschoolers miss out on the prom or they miss out on their friends or they miss out on some other kind of social gathering.
Well, we have an argument for every one of those “may miss out on” things, except for one. And that is the:
Yes, it’s true, my young’ns don’t know the joys of “Snow Day!” But they’re also used to being done with school by noon every day, don’t have homework, and can go outside and enjoy the snow without worrying about making up anything.
But even I admit how much I loved “snow days” as a child. That surprise day of being able to go back to bed (although I never did), watch TV, and hang out at the house.

No reason to miss out on prom! Pedro attended the HUGE homeschool prom and had a blast! Kyle and I helped with it and it was really impressively organized. 600 homeschooled kids showed up at the fancy shmancy Adam’s Mark hotel. It was decorated beautifully. Much more impressive than any public school prom I’ve ever seen. And there was actually a seamstress in the girls’ bathroom in case anyone needed it.
