“The biggest blessings aren’t always planned.”
Has this become a cliche or what?
But let me be all mushy for a minute because today I did finally experience this sentiment!
I must sound as though I’m just ga-ga over babies (and well, I am) and that I’m obsessed with my kids (totally guilty!) and that I’m especially taken by my newest little one (go ahead, arrest me).
Sleep has become pretty much non-existent around here and then there are late hours in which my new baby boy will coo and “chat” with me. Who wants to sleep when there’s this perfect eye contact and beautiful sounds coming from a bright-eyed eight week old, even if it is 2:30 in the morning?
Most folks know the story behind this little one–he was our “shock baby.” I’d just had surgery, was told it’d be awhile before I could even think about conceiving again and somehow, just a few weeks later, we learned we were indeed expecting!
Not only was this a shock, but we’d also finally come to the idea that our next baby would be via adoption–we’d turned all of our attention to the fianances and anxiously awaited our next referral. Having another biological child wasn’t in my current plans. I also never would’ve planned to have a child born in December. In fact, I wanted my kids born before September 15th, so they wouldn’t be held back a year in school.
But here we were, learning of our new bio-baby the same day we were awaiting our next referral, and our baby was due in mid-December. I then started hearing all these stories of December babies who didn’t like sharing their birthday with Christmas and was happy to hear my due date was changing to December 4th. I was told by some that this would be a good time difference so that he or she would still have his or her special day.
So December 4th came and went, as did my next due date and we had no baby. But the closer we got to Christmas, the more exciting things became. Camden being born only nine days before Christmas has brought a whole new special memory for Christmas.
By the time he’s six months old, we’ll be in the warm summer months and by the time he’s a year old, he’ll be experiencing another Christmas. How perfect is that?
While I would’ve never planned for a “Christmas Baby,” he’s one gift I’ll never forget receiving, and if things were totally up to my planning based on what I think is best, I would’ve missed out on a real blessing indeed!
Here’s Camden at a month old. He has his two month old pics today. He tends to cry throughout his photo shoots, so they’re short and sweet.
The Caption in this last picture is from James 1:17 and states “blessings: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above”
