What are you currently doing to fill your mom tank? We often have so much on our plates… juggling the home, the kids, and quite possibly a work-from-home job or side gig. It doesn’t take much to pile on the hats. But those hats can get pretty heavy and our tanks can run dry. Here are a few inspirational tips to refill your mom tank.
5 Inspirational Tips to Fill Your Mom Tank
Embrace the hard days.
I remember when the hard days used to knock me plum off my feet. I’d question why they had to happen and when they were going to end. It wasn’t until I learned how to embrace them that I realized I could actually get through them. It’s embedded in the word “embrace.” This word has a two-fold meaning: to hold close and to accept.
Both of those definitions carry a deep understanding in getting through hard days. Hold them close because that’s when you’ll likely learn the most valuable lessons. And learn to accept them. Accept them as a form of fuel to keep you going.
Stay rooted in the Scripture.
Another tank-depleter our thoughts. What we think and tell ourselves (in the mind) may not always line up with what we look like on the outside. If you’ve been a mom for any amount of time, then I’m willing to bet you’ve had your own battles of stinking thinking to fight. “I’m not good enough… I wish I were a better mother… Am I cut out for this…” And so on.
Be intentional about rooting your thoughts in Scripture and what God says about you. Find a few go-to Scriptures to repeat to yourself, especially when negative thoughts hit. Journal them and put them on notecards around your home. Fill your mom tank with the Word of God.
It’s OK to pray popcorn prayers.
I used to beat myself up for praying popcorn prayers. But you know what? God hears those too, especially when they are pouring directly from my heart. Don’t hesitate to let out a popcorn prayer to help you get through your day. It can be something as small as, “Help me get through this pile of laundry” or “Lord, give me the wisdom to discipline my child!”
God hears you regardless of how long or short you pray. It doesn’t matter if you use big words or sound like a voice over for the King James version of the bible. Just pray.
Take time for yourself.
Think of this as the infamous “self care.” I was talking to a girlfriend the other day and she began telling me how she’s finally at a point to start finding herself. What she meant (and said) was she had spent majority of her life caring for her five children. She rarely took time to figure out what she liked beyond her spouse and kids. It was always about them and what they wanted to do.
By the end of our conversation, I was motivated to start doing that now versus when my youngest was much older. If you haven’t done so already, begin carving out time for yourself and figure out things you like and want to do.
Lean on your friendships.
Having other mom friends is an amazing gift. Knowing you have a girlfriend you can call, pray with, have lunch with, and so on helps alleviate some of the stress. It’s also a great way to refill your mom tank. In those moments when you “feel like you don’t want to bug anybody” (you know what I’m talking about), reach out to your friends.
Final Thoughts
Being a mother is one the biggest blessings we could ever experience earth side. It’s also one of the toughest jobs. But with God, His Word, Scripture, and knowing how to take care of ourselves – we’ll make it through!
