I’ve always been interested in making my own soaps and other skin care items, but the process intimidated me. But since I know that our skin is our largest organ, I’m concerned about what we use, wanting to use less chemicals and more natural items.
Thanks to Roxanne from The Holistic Mama, who sent me a copy of her e-book The Holistic Mama’s Guide to Homemade Skin Care, I’m no longer intimidated!
Included are recipes for cleansers, moisturizers, body scrubs, skin care specifically for your face, insect repellant, and more. There’s even a recipe for a homemade hand sanitizer. If you’re a germophobe like me, you’ll definitely want to check this out, especially as it was extremely easy to assemble.
Before getting into the recipes (including ingredients that you can probably find at your local health food store), she explains how to infuse oils, what essential oils to have on hand and the differences among carrier oils. Going beyond the practical recipes, she even includes ways to incorporate wellness into your lifestyle.
As most women, I enjoy adding special touches to our bath area, so I decided to make the body scrub. The ingredients were simple: 1/2 cup of coarse sea salt, 2 teaspoons of aloe vera gel, 2 Tablespoons of grapeseed oil, and 5 drops of peppermint oil .
The finished product was absolutely delightful! And perfect for this time of year!
