As some of you know, we’ve been cutting way back on the budget and I was incredibly proud that I kept within our extremely small food budget in the last couple of weeks. So I bought foods, while normal to some, are not our usual family fare. But I figured a couple of weeks wouldn’t hurt us.
It could be a coincidence, but hear me out.
Save a tummy bug here and there, up until last week, we haven’t had any illness in this house in over a year–well over a year now.
But within the first week of eating typical, traditional (even name brand) SAD foods, we had three sick people. And over this past week, Camden, who has never once been sick in his life, has developed a rather nasty bug.
While we were able to get the majority of these knocked out (thank you Neti Pot, Goldenseal and Echinacea), we ended up spending about $50 on those things to help get the sick folks feeling better.
And I bet buying our usual foods would’ve been less than $50.
So, it’s back to the good foods! Even when on a budget, I’m sure it’d be cheaper and healthier to feed the children fruit, veggies, and nut butters all day than a 50 cent box of Mac-n-cheese with chicken nuggets.
This Mama is looking forward to getting back to good health!
And all you Mamas with sick young’ns, learn from our mistake! 🙂
