This has been a rough week for our family! Well, at least for Mama and the kids. Mama has dealt with a bad case of insomnia and then came down with some kind of tummy bug. Meanwhile, the kiddos had to cut back on a lot of the usual fun stuff, but today we’re doing better and there’s SNOW!
Jared ran into my room, looked out the window and exclaimed, “Look, Mama! Snow! Let’s go outside!”
A year ago he couldn’t say that–the most we would’ve gotten out of him would simply be a smiling face.
He has come such a long way…he may speak a little slowly at times, his vocabulary may be a bit behind, and there may times when we don’t understand a word he says, but that boy is smart! I’ve learned to just trust his pointing and whatever he says, even when it makes no sense. He knows where everything is, even if it’s the tiniest bit of paper hidden in some obscure place, such as one of the drawers in the playroom. I may ignore his suggestion to look inside the bowl cabinet to find the wipes (which have a place in the changing tower) but sooner or later I’ll learn to just believe what he says.
Jared is quiet, but he’s quite the observer and has the ability to curiously watch every move made in our house. He notices details the rest of us don’t see and is very careful to make sure that everything is just as it should be. I think he was almost relieved to see that the diaper wipes had been moved back to their proper place and usually he’ll move it back himself and fuss at the culprit (generally his little sister) who placed the item in the incorrect spot. Jared loves puzzles and is very good at solving problems or figuring out how things work during play.
And he’s not even four! And as for that, this is the first time EVER that he has been able to tell us what he wants to do for his birthday. So we are going to make sure that happens.
Our family is so blessed to have Jared. I cannot imagine life without him and all the cool new things he has enabled us to experience.
