What fun! I made my first herbal salve today. It included St. Johns Wort, Calendula, Plantain, and Comfrey. At first I wondered if I’d made too much, but Andrew tends to be a bit accident prone at work, so we’ll go through this in no time. It’s good to use on stings, scrapes, minor burns, cuts, etc. To make the salve I used the herbs, olive oil, and beeswax. I added some Lavender essential oil to the final product.
Olive oil in the double boiler:
The herbs are in: Calendula, St. Johns Wort, Plantain, and Comfrey:
After about an hour, the herbs are ready:
Straining the herb infused oil through some cheesecloth:
Squeezing out the last little bit:
Melting the beeswax.
Mixing the infused oil into the beeswax:
Getting ready to pour the mixture into my jars and canisters:
Poured the mixture in and getting ready to add some Lavender oil
The salve was cooling fast, so the drops were added quickly.
The finished product! Andrew burns himself weekly, so we’ll not waste any of this.
