What’s that Homeopathy stuff anyway?

As a certified homeopath, I’m often asked just what is Homeopathy?  It’s a funny name for wonderful natural health care that has been used for millennia.  Many confuse it with herbal medicine, but homeopathy and herbalism are very different.  Herbalism uses only plants for medicinal purposes. Homeopathic remedies are tiny doses of medicines made from natural sources like plants, minerals and animals that stimulate the body’s innate healing ability. 

Homeopathy is based on the idea of “Like Cures Like,” meaning that if a substance can cause an illness, then taking a small amount of that substance can help heal the illness. Almost every illness, injury or upset known to man responds well to Homeopathy.   

Many homeopathic medicines are available over-the-counter.  Extremely effective, they have the added benefits of being non-toxic, gentle in their action and very safe.  Remedies are ideal for children and infants, adults, the elderly, the chronically ill, even animals.  Remedies work with prescription medicines, often enhancing their effectiveness.  And they are so safe that a child or pet could swallow an entire bottle without any danger of accidental poisoning.

The key to success with Homeopathy is to match your symptoms as closely as possible to the needed Homeopathic medicine.  Sounds simple, doesn’t it?  To reduce the pain and swelling from a bee sting, consider taking Apis, which is made from bee venom.  Chopping onions will cause your eyes to water and your nose to run.  If you have a head cold with watery eyes and nose, consider taking Allium Cepa, made from onions, to relieve your symptoms. 

Homeopathy addresses both the physical aspects of an illness or injury and emotional issues. There are some “dis-eases” that may have their start in deep-seated emotions or negative experiences.  We may bury our feelings, but our subconscious will find a way to express those emotions, positively or negatively.  Homeopathy can help bring those feelings into balance and can help resolve long-held issues.

Let me share an example of this with you:  

A very outgoing, generous, energetic woman who was creative, artistic and very fearful at that time asked me for help.  Pregnant with her third baby, she had been monitored for months for placenta percreta, a condition caused when the placenta penetrates through the uterus, attaching to other organs, threatening the life of mother and baby.  She hemorrhaged badly with the delivery of her first two babies, so much so that she needed a transfusion.  For this third baby, her doctors scheduled a cesarean section, followed by an immediate hysterectomy and surgical repair of other organs.  Anticipating extreme blood loss during surgery, her medical team had about 6 pints of blood ready for transfusion. 

I gave her a Homeopathic remedy to help reduce her blood loss during surgery, matching it to her outgoing personality, fearful emotions and tendency for excessive bleeding.  She took the remedy shortly before her surgery.  Once her baby was delivered by C-section, she astounded her doctors; her placenta detached normally and she did not need a hysterectomy or any additional surgery.  That was God’s hand on her.  She lost less than 1 pint of blood during the entire C-section, not the anticipated 6.  

By the way, that courageous young woman is my daughter, and the baby is my beautiful 4-year-old granddaughter.

I believe Homeopathy is God’s gift to us.  He has given us all that we need, ready for us to use.
