Whether homeschooling or attending a traditional school, sometimes students need extra help and practice. Would a program that fits easily into your family’s busy schedule be helpful?
During the past several weeks, my 7th grade and 3rd grade daughters have been able to experience Standard Deviants Accelerate Homeschool Courses, a supplemental program provided by Standard Deviants Accelerate. Courses are geared for students as early as 3rd grade, with the bulk of courses available for students in Jr. High and High School.

- Arithmetic (3rd grade+)
- Fundamental Math (4th grade+)
Supplemental classes for Jr. High include:
- Earth Science (6th grade+)
- Nutrition (6th grade+)
- Biology (7th grade+)
- Algebra (7th grade+)
Supplemental classes for High School include:
- Chemistry (9th grade+)
- English Composition (9th grade+)
- US History (9th grade+)
- AP Biology (11th grade+)
- AP Chemistry (11th grade+)
- AP US Government and Politics (11th grade+)
- AP US History (11th grade+)
- AP English Composition (11th grade+)
Needing help with her math skills, my 3rd grade daughter gave the Arithmetic program a whirl, while my 7th grade daughter worked through the Nutrition program.
After setting up their student accounts, a code was generated that allowed them to access the course I wanted them to take. Each student will require his or her own e-mail account to gain access to their course. Sometimes programs that require a separate parent portal can be confusing, but I was impressed with the detailed information provided to walk me through the set-up step-by-step.

As for the Arithmetic course, it was a little above my 3rd grader’s current skill set. The material is solid, and the dramatizations were enjoyable, but her continued emerging reader status made things a little difficult, and this frustrated her. Fortunately we were able to review lessons together. In contrast, my oldest daughter was a strong reader at this age and would’ve performed well. My 3rd grader will continue to use this program as a supplement. I think once she gets a stronger grasp on mathematical concepts, being able to play the videos will help to reinforce lessons.
A few of the arithmetic topics include:
- Whole Numbers and the Number Line
- Addition/Subtraction and Problem Solving
- Multiplying Whole Numbers
- Fractions
- Decimals
- Measurements and more
My 7th grade daughter’s skills fit beautifully into the Nutrition course, and I was especially impressed by the material. Able to understand it, she worked through lessons independently. She also enjoyed the dramatizations and had a greater appreciation for the activities.
Nutrition topics include:
- Micronutrients and Macronutrients
- Digestion
- Metabolism
- Food sources
- Nutritional Disorders and more

When a question is missed on a quiz, not only is the correct answer displayed, but a convenient shortcut is available so that the student may review.
As a homeschool mom, I think that Standard Deviants Accelerate is a great supplement for middle and high school students. I like that if my students don’t understand the lesson, they can repeat the lecture. Enough variety kept things interesting yet my oldest didn’t find them too juvenile. As for time requirements for lessons, my 3rd grader took it more in smaller chunks of time while my 7th grader could easily work through a few sections in one sitting.
As for costs, one student can purchase a course for use by one student for $99 a year or $24.95 per month. AP courses are available for one student for $14.95 per month.
