Time management and productivity are skills essential to any successful person. This past summer, I picked up a couple of beautiful planners for my older students but was disappointed that I couldn’t find something suitable for my 3rd grader. I needed something simple, easy-to-use, and most importantly, easy for her to understand. And I found it!
My Student Log Book, was created by a homeschool mom of many who, like most of us homeschool moms, needed something to help keep up with student assignments, household chores, and basic organization. Unable to find something that met their family’s needs, she used her creativity to make a daily student planner that’s simple to use and accessible for children as young as 2nd grade all the way through the high school years!

- school tasks
- chores
- prayer requests
- books she’s reading
- field trips
- a couple of favorite memories she’s experienced so far
Other sections are also available for those who need them:
- pages for keeping up with test scores
- presentations and projects
As a mom, my favorite part of this log-book is the simplicity. While my older children enjoyed using their planners, the pages felt cluttered compared to the clean pages in the log book. This worked to her benefit as she’s easily distracted by an abundance of colors and pre-printed material. In fact, after trying the My Student Log Book, I plan to buy a copy for my son on the autism spectrum, since I think he’ll benefit from the more straight-forward and organized approach to keeping up with his day.
How We Used It
Since our copy arrived a few weeks before our move, we used our copy to keep up with chores and a few school items. She loved feeling independent and responsible for her day, and I loved seeing tasks completed. Each day she opened her log book, went down her list of chores and classes, and checked them off as they were completed.
The book is a light weight, traditional paper size 8.5″ by 11″ spiral bound book, with a clear plastic cover. With our busy family, I was impressed by how well it held up, even through a major move and everyday use.
When I first received the log book, the set-up intimidated me a little. After I watched the videos on the site and got started, I found that it was actually very easy. And once set-up, her responsibilities felt like they were on auto-pilot, which was a great feeling during our move while preparing for the upcoming school year.

Step 1: Remove a page from one of the checklist sheets, and cut along the edge. When subjects and tasks need to change, simply create a new checklist.
While My Student Log Book is available in both dated and undated forms, I chose the dated because it was one less thing for me to think about. The dated books come in both an August 1-July 31st format as well as January 1st-December 31st.
My daughter’s favorite things about the log book is being able to personalize it to make it her own. Not only was she able to choose the cover, she enjoyed filling out the “All About Me” page as well as keep track of the books she’s read.
A few of her items included:
- Make my bed
- Read from my reader
- Play with the baby
- Help set the table
- Twenty minutes of math
- Brush my teeth before before bed

My daughter enjoyed seeing her work completed at the end of the day. The log book helped hold her accountable and gave her a sense of accomplishment.
Using the My Student Log Book for High Schoolers
High School is still a couple of years away for our family, but I’m already making plans and tucking away information for the future. In the instructions, the author lays out step-by-step plans on using the My Student Log Book to keep up with high school courses not only for personal record keeping but also for creating transcripts.
Overall Thoughts
If you’re looking for a simple method for keeping up with chores and school while needing something that’s accessible for even your younger students, My Student Log Book may be an excellent solution. The printed log books are $15 each and a PDF instant download is available as well. A single-use licensed PDF is $10 and the family-use licensed PDF is $20. The PDFs don’t currently come with the choice of covers, as the printed books do.
