Just to clear up some things. π
The pronunciation of our Matthias is Muh-THIGH-us, NOT Muh-THIGH-uh, Muh-TEE-us, or MATH-ee-us. Yes in some parts of the world the last three pronunciations are used, but not in our household. π
We will call him Matthias, not Matt, Matty, or any other possible abbreviation. π
He is NOT named after the apostle Matthias, nor is he named after a General.
So, why Matthias?
My cousin Jamie named his son Matthias and I thought it was a great name and had never heard of it. One early morning, Andrew came into the bedroom and asked, “What about Matthias”? I thought super!!! I love it!!! We finally have a name we can agree on.
For awhile I thought that Matthias would be good since I figured it was a derivative of Matthew, which is Andrew’s middle name. But as it turns out, Matthew is the English derivative of the Greek Matthias.
And as for Montgomery?
It’s the name of the Capital City of the Great State of Alabama.
And the two just fit. π
So, his name has a touch of both his Mama and Daddy.
