Our family has been homeschooling for about 8 ½ years. There have been times when I have questioned my decision to homeschool. I think that questioning happens no matter what stage of life you may be in as a mom; despite the kind of education your children are receiving; homeschool, private school, or public school.
It is normal.
However, I have learned over the course of our journey, that my self-doubt and lack of confidence in my decision to homeschool (and often other things, as well) typically come when I have taken my eyes off of Jesus, off of His plan for our lives. It is He who called us to follow this path in the first place, so shouldn’t I be listening closely, watching always, to be sure I follow when He beckons?
Today I would like to encourage you, as you are getting back into the ‘groove’ of homeschooling after some time off, let God lead your homeschool. He knows what path he has laid out for your children. He formed them in the womb. He knew them before they were ever even formed, just as He knew me and you.
Psalm 139: 13-16
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
3 Steps to Being Encouraged as You Homeschool
- Pray ~ ask God what and how he wants your children to learn
- Do not compare ~ Your family and your homeschool are unique. Though we can all learn from others about how to teach a certain subject, or how best to learn a specific life skill, we should not look at others and think their methods are better when they are simply different. God has given you specific talents and your children certain bents. Work within those God-given characteristics.
- DO try new things ~ Has your old schedule stopped working? Are you stuck with a certain concept? Are your children (or you) tired of studying the same topic for the third month in a row? Create a new schedule that will work. Choose a new topic to read about with your children! Change things up! It is okay to try a new curriculum. Better yet, make a trip to the library and find books about animals, biographies about well-loved historical figures or celebrities, or how-to-draw books to satisfy those desires to draw well. Your homeschool will be infused with excitement and learning, and you will not regret it!

Thank you for the encouragement. I’ve really been praying about our home school right now, we need to change things up. Switching curriculums or how we school can be intimidating so I’ve been bathing it in prayer. I needed some of these reminders.
Blessings
