Homeschool Treasures for The Whole Family

I love books, good deals, and saving money! I especially love it when I can combine all three to be a blessing to my family. After spending a wonderful day visiting booths, browsing shelves upon shelves of books, and even chatting with a few good friends, I came away with a variety of items that our whole family has enjoyed (or will!)

Bound DVD Not only were my children absolutely thrilled to get an autographed disc, but they’ve watched this family friendly movie over and over. They even grabbed their boxes of blocks to make their own set of characters.

Our family can’t get enough books and audio-drama! I’ve wanted a couple of Lamplighter Classics for a long, long time and the convention prices, coupled with the Buy 1 Get 1 half off, sold me! Toss in some Jonathan Park adventures, and cue my Junior High student’s squeal!

Oh my goodness, I nearly fell over when I saw these three on sale for 30% off plus a coupon! I loved using the Explode the Code books with my oldest daughter, and I bought these for my 3rd grader to polish off a few skills the fun way (she was my late reader).

By far, the most fun booth at the convention was held by my friend Melanie Young and her husband, Hal Young from Raising Real Men. I’m sure that I own all of their workshop CDs but they’re awesome to listen to again and again. They offer workshops for the family, books for parenting and marriage, stories on audio–my oldest son LOVES Hero Tales and was excited to see that I brought home a couple of new editions, and I can’t wait to listen to the Pollyanna CD’s. My husband and I were able to review their book Raising Real Men a year ago, and both recommend it to any parents raising young men!

Hal and Melanie both have fantastic voices for audio. My children listen to the CDs during quiet times or even just before bed as they’re winding down. Sometimes speakers can talk too quickly or the sound quality isn’t balanced, and that can be disruptive, but these audio CDs are superb.

If their awesome teaching supports for the entire family aren’t enough, they have games and other imaginative toys, too. My children (and my husband) played with the pie plate target w/rubber band guns for hours!

The About Three series from Christian Light Education (and Rod and Staff) is probably one of the sweetest preschool programs out there. I’ve used these booklets for four of my children now and look forward to using it with my fifth this coming year.

I was SO excited to see these books on SALE!! I already have Rachel Weaver’s Be Your Own Doctor, but I didn’t realize there were others! If you’re a fan, the Be Your Child’s Pediatrician and Back Yard Pharmacy will be welcomed additions to your home library.

More awesomeness from Christian Light Education! Whether using their complete reading program or on their own, their readers are delightful and offer wholesome reading material that my children love.

A few fabulous books for mamas!! Not only were these on sale, but I got the fourth for free! Can’t get better than that! I don’t remember the specific name of the vendor selling these, but they’re all fantastic for the homeschool mom! Fit To Burst and Beyond Bath Time are great for any mama!

I picked up this delightful cookbook at the CLE booth! It’s terrific! Every recipe is free of white flour, sugar, and anything artificial! I may end up blogging my way through this gem!

After hearing my homeschooling friends gush about Life of Fred, I picked up a couple of the early books! These are SO cool! I can’t wait to read them to my rising 1st grader and may even move through the series. The great discount was just icing on the cake!

We haven’t used Handwriting Without Tears since my oldest was in Kindergarten, and I snagged this last copy on the sales shelf to use with my 5th grader who is on the autism spectrum. We may work through this book during the summer to keep his handwriting skills fresh.

Not a curriculum item, but I loved this gorgeous necklace and of course the rooster timer from The Busy Mom. When I attended The Busy Mom Conference, Heidi talked to us about our “roosters,” you know, those distractions that keep us from what we’re supposed to be focusing on? Internet, Facebook, Pinterest, and yep, even blogging can steal our time! I set the rooster so that I don’t allow other less important things to eat away my day.

As for the necklace, it reads “fearless,” with the 2 Timothy 1:7 reference on the back.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
