Today’s post is by guest Carlie of Managing Your Blessings.
Have you ever found yourself exhausted and the day hasn’t even started? Or perhaps in the middle of the day at the park you find yourself nodding off as your sweet children are running and playing? I have found in the last 13+ years of being a mother that one thing is for sure – if my energy levels are down – I am in big trouble. I cannot count the days that I’ve been exhausted and still had to remain awake and focused in order to make sure that our children were taken care of. Most of the time when this happens it is directly related to me not taking care of myself the way I should be. Of course there are some things that will make you tired no matter what you do – like having a newborn and nursing or bottle feeding every 2 hours. But even in those phases of my life, what I am sharing below helped me tremendously, and I pray it will help you too!
Here are 4 Ways For Mom to Stay More Energized
1. Allow God to fill you with His Spirit throughout the day. I have found that when I allow God to fill my cup through prayer, praise, and worship – my energy and productivity levels increase drastically. However, on the flip side, I have found that if I do not spend time with God or try to do things in my own strength, I become exhausted very quickly. Keep in mind that in every season of life your time with God looks different. I am not able to spend hours and hours each day in prayer or reading my word like I was when I was a single college student. But that’s okay. God will always show us what time works best to maximize our time with Him in our current season of life.
2. Be sure to get in some form of exercise each day. Not only does exercise give you energy, burn fat, and help detoxify your body, it also sets a wonderful example for your children. I mean, who doesn’t want to be fit and energized in conjunction with creating a fun bonding experience with your children? In the past there were times where I would make up excuses as to why I wasn’t able to exercise, but the reality is I could have made the time. Once I was ready to admit that my excuses were just that – excuses – then I was able to work in time to exercise each day. When my children were younger (now our youngest is 5) I got very creative in ways to include them in my daily exercise routine. Now that they are older it has become much easier.
3. Make sure you are putting good things into your body. Drink as much water as you can and as cut out the sugar and carbs in your diet – specifically those in processed foods. These not only make you lethargic, but can also add unnecessary weight on your frame. I see many tired mommas buying junk food for convenience while complaining they are too tired to function because their children are always riled up. Try your best to replace these types of foods with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as lean proteins such as lentils, fish and chicken. You will not only see a drastic change in your energy levels, but you will also see other health benefits such as weight loss and healthier skin.
4. Make time to hang out with your friends. While most of us don’t have a lot of spare time, we need to be intentional about making sure we sow into our friendships. It is good for the soul to be able to chat with a friend about Jesus and what He is up to in both of your lives. It is always such an energizing thing when we hear about the good things that God is doing in the lives of others as well. And of course we can reciprocate the encouragement when sharing our own testimony!
While there are several other ways that you can keep yourself energized as a mom, I know that if you simply do these 4 things I mentioned above that it will change your life drastically. I am praying for you and am excited that you are on your way to having increased energy levels to love on your family!
