Nope, it’s not Jared’s birthday yet.
On Friday, February 13th, 2004 at 7:00pm (on the dot), I had my first contraction that would lead to the birth of our first son.
I was up all night, with contractions spilling into Valentine’s Day and was scared Jared would be a Valentine’s Day baby. I so wanted him to have his own special day so when the nurse told me I was still only 6 cm. at midnight, I was incredibly happy! And finally, at 6:55am, Sunday morning, he emerged! His birth was my first experience using a doula and with no pitocin or drugs, so I really didn’t know what to expect since my birth with Morgan was so incredibly medicated, and I was given pitocin to speed up things. I used to say his labor was 35 hours and 55 minutes, but the nurses kept rounding up, so there you have it–my first non-medicated labor was 36 hours long. I was so thankful for Kay (the doula).
I can’t imagine life without Jared and he’s taught me so much throughout the past few years.
