Do you have:
- low back pain
- a weak core
- a lower tummy pooch or have a protruding tummy
- see a ridge when you do a crunch
If so, you may have Diastasis Recti and need ab rehab.
I didn’t hear of Diastasis Recti until about three years ago, and even though I recognized many of the signs, I spent too long in denial.
Even as a fitness enthusiast, I couldn’t completely firm up and strengthen my abs. The lower back pain was starting to interfere with my everyday life, and when I was pregnant with my last baby, I decided enough was enough.
As I worked through the assignments, I began to notice improvements and went on to complete their comprehensive program after the birth. Now that my diastasis is healed (as confirmed at my last well-woman visit), I can see that my usual core fitness is finally working!
What The Tummy Team Is and Isn’t
When I first mentioned The Tummy Team, several people asked if it was necessary since they were following other DR safe programs, such as Fit2B. Well, it depends on your needs. For the record, I learned about The Tummy Team through Beth from Fit2B!
The biggest difference is that The Tummy Team is a complete abdominal rehabilitation program, not a fitness regimen. Fit2B is a fitness program including awesome DR-safe exercises, but it’s not ab rehab.
Working through both of The Tummy Team programs enabled me to jump back into Fit2B’s program in a much stronger position, and it also helped correct other health issues, too.
Kelly also includes great exercises to help prepare your body for labor and tips and tricks for working with your postpartum body to help get your core back in shape more quickly.
Very similar to the prenatal program, the Comprehensive program is for anyone else who wants to heal their core, but goes more in depth with extra exercises.
Here’s a picture of me wearing one of their splints while pregnant:
I ordered a new splint for after the birth, and it was wonderful! I really struggle with a weak core after I have a baby, and the splints provided remarkable relief, especially from the back spasms I suffered with after each pregnancy.

I had never heard of diastsis recti. This is great information that may help many people who struggle with low back pain, a weak core and a tummy pooch who just can’t seem to tackle those issues. It’s always a good day when you learn something new!

I know several women who felt better after they were able to close their separation.

My mother developed diastasis recti when she was pregnant with either my sister or myself, more than 20 years ago, and she has had terrible back problems since. I wasn’t aware there was a way to heal the separation without surgery. Would this method be effective for someone whose wound is as old and severe as it is in my mother?
Sara Elizabeth says
Jill, I would show this to your mom and see what she thinks. When I began, I’d already had a separation for awhile. My DR was found at a well-woman visit. When I was pregnant, I did the prenatal program, then the comprehensive program after the birth. Now, after 6 full-term pregnancies, mine is finally closed. 🙂

I have heard of numerous ladies improving and healing their DR YEARS after their last baby – I would very much encourage your mom to look at both the Tummy Team and Fit2B!

Yes, these programs work very well together!
