With three littles in my house {oldest is almost 4} I struggled to figure out what homeschooling will look like, when to start, and how. I have discovered that learning through intentional playing is what works for us right now and I would like to share with you what our “homeschool” day consists of.
We are using the My Father’s World Pre-K for 4s package and have been thoroughly impressed with it! I love how hands on it is and has lots of activities for both of my girls to enjoy. Today we worked on the Alphabet Puzzle board together. Anya {4} did the letter part of the puzzle and Liv {2} matched the shapes. The instructions that are included have lots of other ideas to do with the puzzles which I appreciate.
Our days are fairly simple. It makes it less stressful for me and my girls I think. What we do during the day is work on either the numbers puzzle, letters puzzle, or shapes together and then read some books. My girls love to listen to music and I found that Spotify has Seeds of Worship, Songs for Saplings, and Hide em’ in your heart all available. We will even turn on Adventure in Odyssey and listen while we play with Play-Doh.
After they did an activity and we read some books together it is time for them to have free play so I can get some stuff done around the house. When the girls would play with their toys they would be all over the place and we couldn’t find anything. They were frustrated and I was too! Things didn’t have a place to go and it made it hard to play. Since then we have found a method that seems to be working for us. Bins! I sorted all of their toys into separate bins for them and we are working on taking a bin out, playing with the toys, and then putting it back. It’s a work in progress 😉
Before the girls go to bed we will read books together. This is honestly one of my favorite parts of the whole day, and not just because it’s bedtime! We read the book “Crossroads of Character” together and learn about character qualities and then discuss them together. The girls will tell me all about their days and what they are most thankful for, and then we will pray together. Sometimes I even get to listen to them pray… such a blessing!
Being intentional in what you do with these gifts that we have been blessed with and sharing the Lord with them daily is what it really comes down to. All they want is to spend time with you! Take the time during these early years to be intentional with what you do with your children and stay invested and interested in their lives.

I never buy prepackaged curriculum kits, but I do like the looks of this one for preschool! Lots of great hands-on stuff. Perfect for exploring hands! My kiddos *love* the lacing toys. I just bought some new to us sets at a homeschool curriculum sale and they were thrilled, even the older ones! Looks like you have some great stuff going on, Amber!

What is described here as homeschool I describe as being a mother to small children. This isn’t a curriculum as much as it’s just teaching your kids the basics. I hope these kids will learn actual school material at some point when they are older so they are able to survive in the world and not be idiots.
