I’ve been making my own fabric softener and detergent, but while visiting a local store which also sells cloth diapers, I picked up a bottle of detergent called “Charlie’s Soap.” This stuff is amazing!
It only calls for 1/8 of a cup to do an entire load of laundry and in this family, we go through a lot of loads! I didn’t use any fabric softener, but the clothes came out of the wash very soft and there’s no soap residue.
The soap is also compatible with he machines. I bought a gallon for about $20 and it’s good for 128 loads. I can’t make detergent cheaper. Or maybe I could, but not the way I was doing it.
Above is a picture of the gallon size bottle I have and a link to the website. It’s worked great on towels, dirty clothes, extra-soiled clothes (5 month old baby in the house, ya know), cloth diapers, and is also non-toxic.
