I had a fantastic, wonderful birth experience–it just couldn’t have gone any better. 🙂
I got to the hospital and after being examined, sat on the birthing ball for a couple of hours. The dr. said he’d be over soon to break my water. This was a relief because I really felt that once my water broke, I’d have a baby and I was absolutely exhausted.
I had a fantastic nurse as well which always makes things great. The kids came with us for a bit and then they went away with Ms. Elizabeth who later returned just in time for the birth.
Labor went extremely well and I was able to get a lot of rest, but when I felt the baby coming, yelled to my husband, “Get the Dr. NOW, NOW, NOW.” The nurse didn’t even examine me again. I’d already told her I push my kids out in less than 2 minutes, and she told me she’d make sure he was there in time. No time for dilly dally when my babies finally decide to come into the world. So the doctor got in position, and in one push, out came a baby.
And the really cool thing is that I kind of got to catch my own baby (totally unintentionally). I think I was trying to either help or touch the head or something—I don’t know. So I got to pull this purple, slippery baby straight to my chest and the nurse kept reminding the Dr, “She wants to announce the gender,” but I was so happy that I didn’t even think to announce anything. Andrew was ready with the camera and has some pics of us right after the birth.
And once things got going, I actually had a normal labor. No 6 hour transitions or getting stuck at 8 cm. for 3 hours. And no pitocin was needed after all. It was amazing.
ETA: Sorry, I forgot the “details” He weighed 7 lbs 2 oz, just as his big sister and he’s definitely our tallest infant at 22 1/2 inches. Born on December 16th at 6:02pm.
