When there’s threat of severe weather, the children know they can find Mama watching the radar. Morgan finds comfort in this, especially when a storm strikes in the middle of the night. When I hear hail, I start assessing the situation to see if it’s time to run to the closet with babes in arms.
Andrew usually grumbles something in his sleep and stays in bed.
But tell Andrew that his condo is used as a tornado shelter, and he becomes the one on watch.
As it turns out, when there’s a torando warning, security open up the first floor rooms as shelters. The resort has four floors and at 1000+ rooms, there was a good chance we’d have our fair share of strangers visiting us during the night.
Well, a good Southerner is always up for company.
But we’re talking about the Brit.
So being more afraid of an influx of Retirees than an actual tornado, Andrew stood watch during the night and at 12:32am, came into the bedroom (this time, *I* was the one who stayed in bed) to let me know that Security was driving around in a golf cart, complete with a loud siren. Doors opened and out came several blurry-eyed vacationers. Andrew said as soon as he heard a crowd ask “Where do we go,” he heard the embarrassed guard whisper into his walkie-talkie, “OK, I’ll give the all clear.”
Those guests did NOT seem happy.
We don’t know what happened with the weather, if there really was a tornado, if we had a shy tornado, or just an over-zealous securtiy guard.
But Andrew has been laughing about it all morning.
Because we travel during the off-season, we’re usually only one of a handful of families with young children and often worry we’re going to disturb the other guests who are likely wanting to avoid families as ours.
But what usually happens is the children get many substitute grandparents who compliment them on their behavior. And they also usually have many great tales to tell from their own childhood and even *I* would’ve stayed up for that.
