Another entry on being blessed! Ain’t it great?
There’s a joke among those who know us that the majority of my close friends become missionaries or I become close friends with a missionary while they’re on furlough.
It’s inevitable.
Ever since Lattisha and her family went back to Africa, every now and then I’ve had dreams of a surprise visit at church. There was a suprise phone call once, when her husband called the house and then handed the phone to Lattisha. Lattisha didn’t even know who was on the phone so we were BOTH surprised.
We had our church’s 3 year anniversary celebration today and while getting ready, I thought wouldn’t it be great if Lattisha and her family were here this morning? They could see how much the church has grown.
Andrew called from the church and said, “You won’t believe who just walked in the door. I can’t tell you, but you’ll see.” I immediately thought could it be her? No, that’s not possible, families don’t come back on furlough so soon.
When we got to church, I scanned the sanctuary. Then I saw a swish of long, blonde hair turn the corner and as soon as I saw her profile, ran down the hall (y’all know you’re not supposed to run in church, right?) and screamed, “HEEEEEEEY!” I started crying and laughing while she kept trying to get me to remind her of the baby’s name.
I told Carie this is how I’m gonna react when they come back to visit from Mexico, although I bet she’ll give me ample warning.
To have such great women in my life is a real blessing! I consider these ladies role models and look up to both of them. Lattisha sent an e-mail to me a couple of months ago stating I was an inspiration to her and I thought, me? No way….YOU’RE the inspiration!
And of course Carie is such a wonderful Mama (in fact, Morgan just told me that she’s the best mama she knows, because “she has five children and that’s amazing.”) and has such strong convictions about what she believes. And she deserves a medal for putting up with all my obsessiveness, especially while I was pregnant with Camden.
I think if I do ever have a home birth, I’m either going to Mexico or flying her here, because I don’t know if I could envision a different person as a Midwife.
So, the opportunity to get a picture of both of these ladies together presented itself today and we took advantage of it.
Isn’t it neat how certain folks are brought into our lives? I don’t believe we meet people by accident or coincidence.
Here are the pics:
Lattisha with Elena and Camden and I in line to eat. Lattisha said that women in Africa wear these wraps as well. She said, “It’s one long piece of cloth they wrap around their bodies.” I said, “Yep! That’s it. But here, it’s called a Moby and you pay $40-$60 for one.” Hmmmm……
Another pic of us–Andrew got a little camera happy. BTW, that’s Carie’s house in the background. If y’all remember, I often say if you want to know how to get a family of 7 into a 2 bedroom fifth wheel, check out her blog. 🙂
Carie (Jerez, Mexico), Me, and Lattisha (Zambia, Africa). Wow! One can see on our faces just how humid it is outside:
