We went ahead and started First Grade and it’s going extremely well–we’re done by noon, which is really nice. Morgan is now reading in her reader and loves to read to her siblings and they enjoy sitting next to her and listening.
As for my own school, the Registrar sent me an e-mail granting me an extension. All of the staff and instructors are great and very involved with their student’s work. There is always an instructor online or by the telephone and they’re very strict during discussions and keeping things “deep”–no shallow or surface answers allowed! Some students have even had posts and threads deleted because an instructor said it wasn’t “meaty” enough. One instructor won’t even answer a question unless the student is able to show evidence that he or she has really tried to investigate the question for themselves first.
Jared is starting K4, which is going OK. He enjoys the idea of doing school, because that’s what big kids do, but he still struggles at times understanding instructions. I’m starting to research Kindergarten programs for him now, so we will be ready to go for next year.
