I may not be able to post as often as I do, but y’all know where to find me.
At just a hair over 2 months from my due date, I have a lot to take care of.
We have braces to get off (which isn’t really a big thing, but this final elastics phase is really driving me nuts. Do you know how hard it is to talk, teach, and try to communicate with the world when your teeth are tied together? And did I mention the headaches it can cause as well? Wasn’t orthodontia supposed to get rid of headaches?)
I’ve had terrible insomnia the last couple of weeks and today slept for HOURS! Finally! I get very tired towards the end of the day but was still finding it difficult to sleep. So I sleep when I can. And of course this means I’m right back to missing out on a lot of outside-the-home activities.
We need to wrap up the first semester of school no later than Thanksgiving and preferably before mid-November. I doubt this little one will come early, but ya never know, so I want to be prepared. We’re going to start covering 2 weeks of school each week, which means Morgan is going to have to learn to read QUICK!! She’s doing well with her Primer and after this semester will receive her very first reading textbook! If you remember, we use lots of living books and children’s classics, so the textbook just makes it feel more like traditional school. As for now, instead of reading one page from her Primer each day, she’ll read two. We’ll see how this goes. So, from here until mid-November, we’re doing two Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science, History/Social Studies, and Geography lessons a day. And to top it off, we still have our read alouds, but Andrew is going to take that over. Jared has his K4 stuff and Elena has preschool lessons. And with the homeschool group stuff on top of this, we’re going to be busy!
This week the Bible study starts with the Above Rubies ladies which is great because it’s all going to be via a yahoo group, which means I don’t have to leave the house or worry about Andrew’s crazy work schedule. Isn’t the internet great? I love chatting with these ladies as we’re very much like minded and it’s helpful to know we’re not alone. We’ll be working through the Gate-Keepers of the Home book and I’m looking forward to it.
And speaking of Above Rubies, I have the annual Arkansas conference to attend in mid-November as well–I hope I don’t sleep through it! Fortunately it’s extremely Mama friendly (even pregnant Mama friendly), so I may very well find myself with lots of time to sleep in between workshops.
I’m just wrapping up Module 2 of my Certified Nutritionist program. I don’t think there’ll be a Top 10 this time around though, as it was mostly technical stuff–medical terminology, nutrition suggestions for various ailments, etc. After I finish up an essay and take the exam, I can move on to Module 3! Yay! Once I finish the Weight Loss class though, I’m sure I’ll have a few things to share.
With all that out of the way, I need to assemble some freezer meals for October as well as some extra for December (so I don’t have to worry about it in November). I also need to clear out our closet, re-organize the homeschool stuff, decide what stays or what goes in the playroom, and figure out how we’re going to arrange our bedroom so we can fit the crib and a small dresser in there. Elena has been begging to move into Morgan and Jared’s room and that was the plan, as we’d then just leave the crib in the playroom. But we’re trying to keep to a maximum of two to a room. We’ll see how this goes.
I was just thinking how much this house has changed over the years. When we were pregnant with Jared, we just knew we’d have to move, but we somehow made it fit. When we were pregnant with Elena, we again thought we’d need to move, but we still fit in this house. And then after her birth, we brought in a professional Designer who did wonders. She often tells us that she can fit a family of 8 in this house. According to her, it’s not a matter of how many people are in a place, but rather how much *stuff* is inside. We’ve upgraded a few things–we have a new microwave, refrigerator, and dish washer. We’ve brought in a bench so we can all fit around the diningroom table, and have painted, re-decorated, and re-arranged the furniture about a dozen times in the past seven years. And we still fit!
Yes there are days when I do dream about that bigger house, but then I remember that I like our small mortgage and the ability to clean the entire house in about an hour! Jared’s therapy being 2 minutes down the road is a very, very nice benefit as well! Plus we have college funds to save for as well as curriculum to buy each year. I’m sure there’ll come a day when we’ll outgrow this little house, but until then…………….
