Overindulge would be considered an understatement to all of the goodies I have inhaled this past month. I ended the cheerful Christmas season feeling sluggish, lazy, and down right icky.
So… I did what I do best. I grabbed my box of chocolate truffles, grabbed my iPad, opened Pinterest and pinned away. My search and secret board you might ask? Sugar detox. Y’all seriously, I had a truffle in my mouth, with another held between my thumb and index finger while my middle finger pinned every image to get me back on track. To get me feeling like myself with energy, happiness, and a guilt free conscious.
The next day started off strong. I drank a gallon of some kind of detox concoction, ate my greens, fruits, nuts, and avoided all sugar. (I had eaten it all the night before anyways) I couldn’t wait to make my detox soup for the entire family for dinner! It was jammed packed with every vegetable known to man. I just couldn’t stop there. I added the detox spices which were turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and grated ginger.(sigh)
Let’s call that for what it was…a Pinterest fail. There were no happy people at my dinner table, myself included. My husband began to tease and started humming a song about how easily I can go from one extreme to the other. With hands on my hips and a smile on my face I said, “Oh my, your right!”
I began to replay all of the times I had jumped from one extreme to the other full speed ahead. I went from a hospitalized epidural birth to a home birth. I went from planning to send my children to public school to homeschooling them. I can go from eating a cheeto to a kale chip in half a second flat. From a tight-knit cleaning schedule to tripping over baby dolls and trains.
Neither side is a bad place to be, but I have a hard time with finding my way through the middle, the place that tends to work for me and my family. With all of the motivation phrases and words popping up everywhere this time of year it’s so easy for me to jump sides back and forth. If your anything like me then your next idea soon becomes a temporary focal point in your life and at times can lead to an obsession. Perhaps beneath the resolutions needs to be a disclaimer, “Balance” or the phrase, “Caution to all who tend to go overboard!”
What I learned through my Pinterest fail is that it’s actually not about sides, truffles, right or wrong. It’s about the heart and perspective and the number of thoughts wasted jumping to and fro dwelling on the newest, latest, and greatest idea that pops in our brains.
Jesus must be the center ring we filter all of our passions, ideas, and thoughts through. All in all, life isn’t about the detox soups, my made up cleaning schedule, or my phenomenal playlist while giving natural birth. It’s about living life to the fullest to glorify the Creator of it. To find Him in all and through all and find my way through the middle to Him.
Please tell me I’m not alone!? Any one else have passions that sometimes run wild?
