Andrew recently listened to the True Beauty 2008 CDs from Vision Forum, a recording of the 2008 Father Daughter Retreat. After reading his review, I want to listen to them myself. So, if you’re a father with daughters, regardless of how old or young they may be, or if you’re a daughter, check out Andrew’s review and you can follow the links to learn more.
True Beauty 2008
Cultivating Christ centered father and daughter relationships
If you are not lucky enough to attend a vision Forum conference, or you need a refresher day by day, this CD set is a wonderful addition to a home.
Being a relative newcomer to the Vision Forum Ministries, the foundational CD sets the tone for me, followed by Scott Browns exposition and thoughts on the Proverbs 31 woman. Having personally grown up without a Biblical view of what womanhood looks like, a striking contrast was made between God’s best and what I had been fed over the years by the world.
The next offering is by Anna Sophia and Elizabeth Botkin, as they catalogue the Transition from beautiful girlhood to noble womanhood. This was an incredible blessing to me as it moved the teachings from the theoretical to the real life. Hearing the testimonials and questions and answers from two young ladies that are putting these principles into practice was both inspiring and humbling.
On Disc 4, Dan Brown calls us to return to the Biblical definition of beauty–the central message of the conference. We quickly see that beauty is a concept hijacked and tainted by this current world’s ideology. The Bible has much to say about this wonderful trait of womanhood, all of which is attainable by all of our daughters.
The center of this program offers much in the way of panel discussions with question and answer sessions that allow the listener to hear of the struggles and triumphs of other families attending. This made the concepts spoken of at this conference concrete in the mind of the listener, concepts that can sometimes seem so distant and hard to grasp in this world, that we find ourselves living from day to day.
How to prepare a daughter for marriage was another powerful message, for me it allowed me to focus on leading my daughters with a goal at hand, rather than living the day to day. It was probably this message that made me fully realize the reason that the ministry is called “Vision Forum” and realizing that my lack of vision was in itself careless and destructive. I believe that this message in particular will be extremely powerful as the Lord continues to use it to shape my philosophies and day-to-day practice.
The program concludes with an exposition and insight into the character of Lot, a Bible character that is all too easily criticized. Who of us does not compromise to conform to our surrounding society and peer group, and if I can see error in Lot, how much more must I look to my own family with due vigilance?
An excellent source, if a man have ears to hear, these materials are life changing and impacting. Controversial at times, but not controversial because of some neo-Christian philosophy, but controversial because they dare to take us back to the core truths of the Bible, no matter how politically incorrect that might be in our day and age.
Beautiful!
