So I am enjoying the Farmer’s Market!!!
And most importantly, the big delicious fresh from the orchard apples! You just can’t buy apples like these at Wal-Mart.
They smell and taste soooo yummy!!!
Tonight I baked 6 dozen (yes SIX dozen) apple muffins.
And tomorrow for lunch, we’re going to have apple-spiced chicken, along with baked apples on the side, and apple crumble for dessert!!! All made with our fabulous farm fresh apples!
My grandparents ran a farm and I have such fond memories of going out with them to gather the apples (yum), watching the folks pick the corn and other vegetables, get the eggs (I still remember walking out there with my grandmother and watching her inspect the eggs), feed the cows, etc. As the kids were enjoying some apples this afternoon (they did eat some the old-fashioned way–straight from the core), I was a little sad that they haven’t been able to experience the same fun on a farm that I did. I don’t know if I appreciated it as much back then as I do now, though.
There’s something about fall that brings back a lot of childhood memories. And puts me in the mood to bake!!! Our Farmer’s Market closes down on November 1st (say it ain’t so) so I’m gonna enjoy these apples and buy many more right up until the end!
And since the braces come off this Thursday (Yeehaw!) I’m going to finally be able to eat one of those apples without cutting it up in teeny-tiny pieces.
